The Boinc manager keeps freezing and also refuses to shut down when I try to shut it down using the drop down menu. I have to Force Quit. When I open it again, it is not able to connect. The only way to get it working again is to reboot the computer. I am on Mac OS 10.12.4. Boinc Manager version 7.6.34.

How do you know BOINC Manager is frozen?

Is the BOINC client running at this time? BOINC Manager is a separate program with which you easily command and control the BOINC client, but when the latter isn't running, and you start BOINC Manager, it'll tell you it cannot connect to the client... because it isn't running.

Or when you start the manager, are you allowed to do so? Is hat instance of the manager allowed to contact the client?
You may be able to solve it by rerunning the security script, as per http://boinc.berkeley.edu/wiki/Tools_for_Mac_OS_X#Using_BOINC.27s_security_features_with_the_stand-alone_BOINC_Client

Even Force Quit has a hard time shutting it down. When it is in this state and I go to reboot it can take up to 5 minute for the computer to finally shut down. This only happens when BOINC manager "freezes".

I assume the BOINC client should open when BOINC starts automatically upon boot up or upon opening BOINC via the applications folder. Although when I start from the applications folder, that is when I usually have the connection problem. While BOINC does start at boot up, I don't keep BOINC open all the time. But, it does sometimes "freeze" even if it has been running since boot up. It appears though that the information I see in BOINC manager may be what is "freezing" and not the actual work done because when I reboot, it looks like work units have been sent and uploaded as they no longer appear in the tasks tab.

I have discussed this with the BOINC developer for the Mac. He thinks it may be related to the issue described in #1909, especially if you use the manager to connect to a (remote) computer with more than 300 tasks.

But it may also be that you have one of the rare corrupt installations of BOINC, so could you please uninstall BOINC, download a fresh copy from the web site and install that anew, then see how that goes?

So, I completely removed and reinstalled, but it is still "freezing up." It appears that its just the manager freezing because when I restart it, it looks like it was still completing work. I'll have to track that more closely to confirm work is till getting done. I'll report back on that.

Ok, so in BOINC manager the tasks tab stops updating after a few seconds running any given work unit. When I check the activity monitor, BOINC and the work units are still going. When I shut down BOINC manager, it takes about 3-5 minutes for BOINC and the work units to stop. When I then reopen BOINC manager, it is not able to connect to the local host until I reboot the computer. I was running Einstein@Home in this scenario.
