(I can paste my post in everyone's thread, or you can just come to mine ;))

Try the latest BOINC version for Windows 5.2.10:

# Changes since 5.2.9

* Win: Fixes a BOINC Manager connection issue when the manager is waiting on a firewall for the all clear. This generally happens after a reboot.

# Changes since 5.2.8

* Win: Fixes the 'connection failed' message when another program is using the BOINC communication port.

And thank you for your patience so far.

I'm using 5.2.12 now on a laptop, and it says "Failed to attach to project", and "Missing account key" under messages, and on the projects screen, something about scheduler defered or something.

Firewall isn't the problem, or the router, extensively tested both, and I've got two other machines that installed and ran the same projects as I'm trying on this laptop without a hiccup.

Known issue or something? Thanks!

Please post your complaint about not being able to connect on the Q&A forum of the project you cannot connect to.

Boinc 5.2.12 is the latest.
Changes since 5.2.11

* Prompt to retry the connection if a connection failed event occurs.
* Treat various forms of the local computer name as a local machine instead of a remote machine.

I could... but that'd require posting to ALL the projects ;) It happens to SETI, Predictor, Rosetta, LHC, E@H, and CPND. I havent tried any others, whichever are left. Meanwhile, two other comps on the network go fine, so thought it most appropriate here.

Still appropriate to pick one of them and post there?

On the right hand side, of the bottom bar of the BOINC window, does it say "Connected to localhost"?

Yep, it does

Also, from messages:
11/26/05 23:41:18||Fetching config info from http://predictor.scripps.edu/get_project_config.php
11/26/05 23:41:19||Missing account key

again, doesnt do it on the other comps, with the same info plugged in.

Nobody will ever believe this, I dont believe it myself, but..

For whatever reason.. BOINC has automatically been selecting "Suspend" even before I attach to a project. Soon as I force it to run, it talks to the scheduler, download want it wants, and within seconds, bam, I'm.. curing cancer and such.

Is BOINC sensitive to the state of the power on a laptop, ie, on the AC or battery? It's been plugged in most all of this time through my tests, so not sure. If it is supposed to be sensitive to it, it might just be a conflict in knowing what my particular lappies state is.

In any event, its working now, I care not, I'm happy, and can finally rest knowing my Turion64 ML34 is hard at work once again.

Bother! I'm trying to help two people on cpdn with the same problem.
I forgot about Suspend. I think this is one of the many default values.
So many possibilities; So little time.

Glad you're in business. Happy crunching.

Yes, by default. You can set it in your preferences.

I downloaded the newest version from the web page last night. It is the version labelled "5.2.13" at the link posted by Ageless. However, I still have a problem:
I get an error from Boinc Manager that it "Cannot Connect to localhost" no matter what I enter. "localhost". IP address, etc. I figured out from another thread that BOINC.exe is never loading, only the manager.
Even after uninstall and re-install, boinc.exe never loads, even when I click on it in Windows Explorer.
I tried starting it from the command line box in Win XP, and I get this error message:

You notice that even though I downloaded the version labelled "5.2.13" from the web site, clean install, BOINC thinks it's loading version "5.2.12". Has someone mis-labelled the files on the BOINC site?
This error happens every single time. This is the same Windows box that I've had for years, everything else seems to be running fine.
I hope this helps someone come up with a solution.

Try uninstalling your version first. If you have installed BOINC as a service, make sure you stopped the service before trying to uninstall it.

My version shows the correct client:
29/11/2005 12:46:47||Starting BOINC client version 5.2.13 for windows_intelx86

Make sure you have full read and write rights for the BOINC folder.
Make sure you're either a power user or administrator before you attempt to install BOINC. Else you may get errors like that:

I already tried uninstalling and re-installing. I am an administrator on my machine, yet I still get the error.
