Hi.

I'm ex user of BOINC.

I had to sign out from your project because your volunteer Assistance tried to steal me password of my Paypal account.

when i needed to assistance, i went to the page of volunteers and i click to http://boinc.berkeley.edu/help_vol.php?volid=270
i told him that i had problem with climate prediction project, and he sad to me that to solve problem he needed absolutely my password of boin and email.

i was surprised of that, but i 've trusted in BERKELEY, and i gave him. then he began to ask me security question to access, and he said that was for security and he said that ofr an hour i wouldn't access to my email.

after half an hour, i 've made an access to email and SURPRISE THERE WERE A LOT OF emai from paypal with the objective" trying to recover password"..it was clear, security question he ' has made to me was to stael password.....

i dont know if he stole me money, i will check

probably i was stupid to gave him password, but i trusted in Berkeley and in its name. this is an error that i will never do again.

NOW, i will contact Italy police department.

see you.

Do you know who helped you? What his or her name was?

Do know that even the BOINC helpdesk is manned by volunteers. And those can be crooks as well. Never give out your email address and password for BOINC or anything else, for that matter. Never give them your authentication key either.

I have forwarded this thread to the BOINC development group.

If he's still there, what is his name?
Or do you just want all of the Skype help facility removed?

Anyone thinks there's a contradiction there on that skype help page?
You can send email to a volunteer even if they're offline. To do so, click their name.

* BOINC helpers are unpaid volunteers. Their advice is not endorsed by BOINC or the University of California.
* Never give email address or password information to BOINC helpers.

If you're setting up a BOINC project, this is not the place to get help. Instead, try the boinc_projects email list.

Never give it, but if you send a mail then...

An email address used for BOINC world is strongly recommended to be junk-able and only used for BOINC world.

* Never give email address or password information to BOINC helpers.

Not that the advice about a junk email address isn't sound, but I think you're reading it out of context. It's Never give email address or password information.

So never give information about your email address (such as how to get onto it) to others.

Of course, if you know of some way to better word it, in clearly understandable terms for all countries, please do so and I'll forward it to the devs.
