My system runs three projects on an AMD Phenom2 x4 with Boinc 6.10.17 on Ubuntu 10.04

I completed a climate prediction work unit, but a new one was not downloaded so I reset the project. This resulted in three work units being downloaded all of which which boinc immediately ran as priority tasks (deadlines are November), thus not sharing time with other projects.

I've got round this by suspending two of the three work units and things are running normally, with other projects getting their share of time.

But why did this happen? Was it a problem with the Climate server, or with Boinc? Or is it just to be expected?

By resetting the project you not only discard of the project's executables and any tasks/models still in queue, but you also reset things like the duration correction factor and the debt that the project had towards other projects.

I suspect that CPDN had some debt towards your other projects and it was just that BOINC was waiting its time to get that debt paid back to the other projects. Next time, if you just leave things be and you'll find that eventually BOINC will get new work all automatically.

Now BOINC will have to learn all over again how long the CPDN models take, which it will do in high priority mode, since the deadline on the FAMOUS models is only 3 months. All 3 of your models, if downloaded at the same time, will have the same deadline. You may be able to get them done sequentially, but there's a good chance that the last one will go over the deadline. Which is what BOINC is trying to prevent from happening.

In my opinion it's better you abort one of ones you have suspended. Just to be save.
