Actually I've got multiple questions:

a) Exactly what hours is the Berkeley site down? I'm in the UK, currently on GMT+1, so it makes a big difference to when I can let BOINC run.

b) It seems that I have 29 tasks at the moment of SETI data. Most of them need very little CPU time (~ 30 mins), and only one or two more than 5 hours. I can process all these in a day or so, and the rest of the time BOINC is saying 'No running tasks', and as the site is down I can't do any more. Is these any way to get more tasks (or longer running tasks) to keep my system working longer?

c) I think my system (windows 7 32-bit) is not behaving correctly and I am serious considering a reinstall of the OS. I would like to know just where the configuration and data files are so I can reinstate them after the reinstall?

Approximately 15:00h Tuesday (GMT+1) to 15:00h Friday (GMT+1). Exact times cannot be given, as it depends on when the Seti admin get into the office. Also, despite the project being up on Friday, expect long times for problems uploading, reporting and getting work, as some 250,000 computers will all try to do that at the same time.

Increase the Additional days value in your preferences to at least 4 days. Mind that the local preferences (BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences) will override the web-site preferences.

Backup your BOINC Data directory. Default place for it is in C:\ProgramData\BOINC. You'll need to backup the whole directory including sub-directories and all files.

a) This is best asked in Number Crunching on the Seti forum, and not at the Boinc forum,

b) In your computing preferences change the following:

Maintain enough work for an additional to 4 days

c) All your configuration files and data files are in the Boinc Data folder, you can find the location from your Boinc startup messages, the folder will be hidden, so you'll need to unhide it,
make sure you back up the whole folder, when you reinstall you can eithier put the Boinc Data folder back where you found it, then install Boinc, or you can put it in new location and direct the installer to the new location,
if you restore the Boinc Data folder after you've installed Boinc, the folder permissions won't be right, a repair install will fix those,
