I've only recently begun seeing the following

.
.
10/3/2010 7:16:33 AM Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high
10/3/2010 7:16:44 AM Resuming computation
10/3/2010 7:17:14 AM Suspending computation - CPU usage is too high
10/3/2010 7:17:24 AM Resuming computation
.
.

The job(s) run(s) for about 30 seconds and suspends for ten or so and then resumes. Most of the time the CPU Meter shows the CPU at 100% in both cores when computation is in progress. SETI@home seems to run OK and it is Climateprediction and Einstein@home that seem to suffer the most. LHC@home hasn't had any work for months.

I have installed BOINC 6.10.58 but the problem started during 6.10.56's watch. The CPU is an AMD Dual Core with 4Gb RAM and two WD 150Gb Raptors in a RAID 0 configuration.

Has something changed and can this be fixed?

OK, OK. I found the FAQ discussing this "feature" for those of us who allow the computer to run 24/7.

I shall see if I can disable this so the computation(s) can continue uninterrupted.

But still the question of why this suddenly appeared still stands.

ALL new 'features' appear suddenly for those who aren't testers. :)

In this case, it was because of the increasing number of people new to DC who complained that BOINC + apps weren't allowing them to use their computers when they wanted to.

Set the value to 0 (zero) to disable it.

In addition to introducing new features, bugs or oversights sometimes slip in too ;-)

In addition to suspending computation when non-BOINC CPU use was really higher than the pre-defined threshold, sometimes (or rather too often?) it was triggered just few seconds after preempting/finishing some task.

It seems that 6.11.8 (and finally 6.11.9) completely fixed this mis-behavior, and the intended feature now appears to kick-in correctly.

I'm having the same problem, but I've been unable to find the info Turner speaking of, What is the feature that needs to be disabled?. Please explain here in the thread so others can fix the problem.

I've been getting a message of temporarily failed download for two days. Also, computation suspende and communications deferred. Seemed to have started when I installed 6.10.58. Anyone else having this problem????

Don't let the subscribed today fool you - I've actually been using Boinc for many years. First time i've had to use the message boards.

Set the following in your Computing Preferences to eithier Zero to disable it, or to a higher figure,

Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25 %
0 means no restriction
Enforced by version 6.10.30+

That's the first thing I checked. Thought it might be a problem writing to the drive so was going to change the drive it is writing to but can't find any place to change the drive.

Seti has been having Server problems and aren't dishing out work until new servers are in place, probably another 3 weeks,
uploads and the scheduler have been up, but downloads are disabled,

See News, and Technical News at their site: SETI@home Message boards

So join another project in the meantime, unless you already have,

Claggy

Edit: It's also Tuesday, when Seti do their database backup and system maintenance.

As for changing the drive, this is on the options page, which you get by clicking the Advanced button on the 3rd page of the initial install sequence.
