Is there something going on with SETI functionality on BOINC? My screen saver has not been working for weeks. And I've not touched any settings or made any changes to my computer. It just keeps running a black screen with some generic BOINC message, not the SETI program itself. When I open BOINC Manager and try to view my account or preferences it just says "This page requires database access. Our database server is temporarily shut down for maintenance. Please try again later." What's going on? (And P.S. I'm not a "new member" as noted by my ID. I'd just never gotten around to setting up a forum account before. I've been a SETI@home / BOINC user for years and years).

Other than that they have their normal Tuesday outage at this time, they're also waiting for 2 new servers to arrive after the major database server crash of a couple of weeks ago. The waiting for the new servers is what's giving us all little or no work at all.
They're doing clean-up work in anticipation of the arrival of the new servers, which causes some sporadic work to be available, but that'll stop eventually as well.

Note that you're on the BOINC forums, we're not really in any way affiliated with the Seti project or any other project. Please check later today their web site --after their Tuesday maintenance-- at http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/ for more information.

Tuesday of every week SETI@home is offline to do maintenance on their servers.
[Edit] Oops sorry Jord you beat me by two minuets :)[/Edit]

Thanks, both of you!
The weekly Tuesday maintenance thing is good info to know, but wasn't really pertinent to my issue since I'd mentioned that this has been going on for weeks.

(Seems like it's been a lot longer than just two weeks, too. More like 4 or 5 weeks or more? Can't remember. I don't really pay much attention to my screen saver but gradually became aware that something was not right. So, I can't really say how long it's been, but I feel it's been quite a bit longer than two weeks....)

Anyway, thanks again for the info! I'll check that site out.

Tuesday was once THE day for "no servers", but for some months it's been "3 days starting with Tuesday". The extra days have been for science work.

And now it's just about ALL down for a couple of months.

The project web sites are the first place to look for info on what's happen at that/those projects.
For SETI, all of this is explained with messages on the front page.

Well, it was good while it lasted.
The past three days have been back to the ol' blank screen....

I see that you still haven't read the message on the front page of SETI about being down on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. :(
