Sometime back, I set my buffer for additional days worth of work to 2 days. Now I want to change that, but I don't see that option in Preferences anymore. I went to
C:\ProgramData\BOINC\global_prefs_override.xml
to change this value:
<work_buf_additional_days>2.000000</work_buf_additional_days>

I saved and closed the file.
Then went into my BOINC Manager Preferences and hit OK to make sure my override was reloaded. I went back to the override file to make sure the value hadn't been overwritten. Sure enough, it was overwritten back to
<work_buf_additional_days>2.000000</work_buf_additional_days>

Is this preference removed from the BOINC manager, and if so why?
Why can't I set it even with the override file?

I first noticed this while working in BOINC 6.10.58. I'm also seeing it in 6.10.60.

Why don't you set it through the menu?
BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Preferences->Network usage->Additional work buffer.

As soon as you make any changes to the file, then read the preferences in an already running BOINC, then click OK, it will save the values still in memory and overwrite what you just changed.

If you only want to do it manually, make sure you go BOINC Manager->Advanced view->Advanced->Read local prefs file first.

Oh, there it is! :-[ I was looking around so much and it was right there the whole time. My bad.

I was expecting to find it under Disk and Memory Usage (it's been so long since I set it), but I suppose it makes as much sense to put it under Network Usage.

Thanks so much!
