I'm running Fedora 15, with BOINC 6.10.58 which I installed from the repositories. After I got everything running, I decided to install a GPU to speed up the computations. Much to my annoyance, nothing happened.

The card I installed was an AMD Radeon HD5450, and I'm using the Catalyst drivers from the AMD website. I thought I'd ask here first before hitting the AMD and Fedora forums, does anyone have any idea what is going on? I know that with Windows it works fine, I know people that are running Windows. I prefer Linux myself.

1) Edit the file /etc/default/boinc-client and change the line BOINC_USER="boinc" to be BOINC_USER=”root”. That way the boinc service will run on the root account and there will be no permissions problem whatsoever.

No such file on my system.

OK, that file exists. Edited it as you suggested, and now BOINC won't work. The GUI runs, but it won't connect to the project.

Reverted and BOINC is running again. Interesting. Very interesting.

I've done a bunch of things, not sure if it's working, but then I'm not sure I'm awake yet :) I'll come back to it when I'm fully functional.

I've posted on the Fedora forums, and had no response so far.

I installed BOINC on Fedora 14 without any issues.

The advice in this post didn't help you? It worked here.

No, possibly because I've got an AMD card.
