I'm running BOINC 6.12.33 on my iMac with OS X 10.6.8 . I have the NVidia CUDA dev package installed (driver 4.0.21) to run with my NVidia GT130 512 MB.

I'm attempting to run some of PrimeGrid's GPU work on my GT130. BOINC successfully downloads the WU's and seems to schedule them fine along with the other work from other projects. But after the WU's been running for a short time, the WU won't suspend either to obey the GPU preference ("Use GPU while computer is in use" unticked), or by hitting the Suspend button in the Commands pane. I have to Abort the WU to get it to stop using the GPU. I also run Einstein@Home CPU-only work, and those WU's obey the preferences I've set for CPU usage.

I've tried everything I know to get these GPU WU's to obey the GPU preferences, but no-go.

Hi Dagorath,

In Boinc manager's Advanced View, click Activity and make sure you have "Use GPU based on preferences" selected.

If that doesn't solve your problem then I have a question. In your preferences you have "While computer is in use" unchecked and BOINC suspends CPU tasks when you use the computer? Just asking to make sure I read you correctly.

Here's my Preferences. And yes, CPU-only WU's suspend correctly when I resume using the computer.

Thanks.

Since CPU tasks are suspending properly we can be sure BOINC is detecting mouse and keyboard usage. Have you tried rebooting the OS?

Yes. Doesn't affect the problem.

Since the tasks don't suspend even when you click the Suspend button, I am pretty sure this must be a problem with PrimeGrid's application. Have you mention4ed the problem on the PrimeGrid forum?

Yes I did. Another Mac user said he runs PG GPU work without any problems, but he's using an older version of BOINC (6.12.19). That's why I decided to post my problem here.
