Ever since I started using Carbonite online backup BOINC does not run automatically. Carbonite run continuously and consumes most of one of my CPUs (I have 8 total) so when my system is not in use the total CPU usage will be around 13-14%.

I have increased the 'processor usage' threshold in BOINC preferences to 25% but it still does not run. The only way I can get BOINC to run is to change the Activity to 'Run always'.

Also, if I stop Carbonite, then BOINC will run automatically when my system is idle.

Any ideas?

System:
Two quad-core Xeon processors
16GBs of RAM
BOINC version 6.10.58

Looks like Carbonite runs at a higher priority than the science applications under BOINC. Or you have the "Suspend work if CPU usage is above 25%" option enabled, by which all non-BOINC programs that run at thus a high amount of CPU cycles (measured on one core) will suspend work done on BOINC.

Why do you need to run Carbonite 24/7? Why can't you put it in a scheduler?
And really, if this is a problem, you should first and foremost report it at Carbonite's developers. It looks like BOINC does work as it should.
