I have a HP system p6803w with an NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [GeForce 210] (rev a2) GPU. BOINC instal put it to use, but my system crashed intermittently. I am using the NVIDIA drivers, not the open source nouveau alternative. I am on Ubuntu LTS 18.04.3 with all updates. I Activity->suspend GPU and the crashes stopped, but SETI seems to be waiting for the GPU. I guess I have to reinstall to stop offering my GPU, just as I have to reinstall to change my disk usage data! BOINC should have a configuration utility that allows adjustment of all parameters, even if it forces a reset of all projects!

BOINC should not allow install of incompatible GPU models.

Just go to your account page at https://setiathome.berkeley.edu/prefs.php?subset=project and uncheck "use Nvidia gpu" for that host. Problem solved.

You don't have to reinstall BOINC to change your Computing preferences either. Again your account page has all that you need to configure how you want to have BOINC use your computer.
