Computation of Einstein@home has been using integrated Intel HD Graphics 520, Skylake GT2, for months, but recently BOINC 7.14.2 stopped "seeing" the GPU. It's an ASUS laptop running Win10 home version, 64 bit I seek to solve this prolem, if I can... Here's an extract from the BOINC log 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.14.2 for windows_x86_64 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | Libraries: libcurl/7.47.1 OpenSSL/1.0.2g zlib/1.2.8 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | Data directory: C:\ProgramData\BOINC 12/14/19 01:42:32 | | Running under account Owner 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Intel(R) Corporation, driver version 7.6.0.0814, device version OpenCL 2.1 (Build 0)) 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | No usable GPUs found 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | app version refers to missing GPU type intel_gpu 12/14/19 01:42:33 | Einstein@Home | Application uses missing intel_gpu GPU 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | app version refers to missing GPU type intel_gpu 12/14/19 01:42:33 | Einstein@Home | Application uses missing intel_gpu GPU 12/14/19 01:42:33 | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task LATeah1062L19_388.0_0_0.0_11544218_0 12/14/19 01:42:33 | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task LATeah1062L19_388.0_0_0.0_15445570_0 12/14/19 01:42:33 | Einstein@Home | Missing coprocessor for task LATeah1062L20_332.0_0_0.0_32194309_1 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Host name: DESKTOP-MPB0NIH 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Processor: 4 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6200U CPU @ 2.30GHz [Family 6 Model 78 Stepping 3] 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clflush dts acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pni ssse3 fma cx16 sse4_1 sse4_2 movebe popcnt aes f16c rdrandsyscall nx lm avx avx2 vmx tm2 pbe fsgsbase bmi1 smep bmi2 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | OS: Microsoft Windows 10: Core x64 Edition, (10.00.18362.00) 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Memory: 7.87 GB physical, 9.12 GB virtual 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Disk: 465.13 GB total, 418.11 GB free 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | Local time is UTC -7 hours 12/14/19 01:42:33 | | No WSL found. |

There's this post about it. (Message 91833 from Richard.) Did you do/get a Windows update about the time in question? |

There's this post about it.I see I wrote 'testing of the new client should start either over this weekend, or during the week commencing 17 June 2019.' Well, testing did start (rather later than that), and there is a version 7.16.3 available for the strong of heart. But it isn't finished yet, and the latest information I heard this past week is that another round of testing may start around this next Tuesday, or 17 December 2019. |

That's a good question. I'm not really sure, but it is possible that Microsoft has somehow stabbed me in the back. |

I just installed BOINC 7.16.3, and it seems to be working fine, now. Here's hoping all will continue to be well until a finalized version comes out. I've turned off the screensaver, in case there might be4 issues there. As long as it processes data, I'm happy |

Well, that tests part of 7.16.3, and it seems to work. :) |

Hi everyone, I have a similar problem because Boinc stopped recognizing 2 form 4 GPUs so hope this is a right place to describe my case. I use two AMD Radeon Pro Duo graphics cards and sudendly without any configuration and hardware changes Boinc sees only 2 devices instead of 4. I have tried to upgrade /downgrade graphic drivers, reinstal Boinc, configure cc_config to use all GPUs, changing projects... All without any success. I have no idea what to do next to retrieve lost gpu's. Maybe you will help? Here are the logs before and after I lost GPUs. Considered that perhaps one of the cards is dead, has come loose from its PCIe slot (thus reseat it), or that it's without sufficient power (check your PSU, check cables)? |

Thank you for a fast response. I tried to turn off graphic cards in Windows device manager. If I turn off the first card in device manager, GPU device 0 stops counting. If the second graphic card is turned off, GPU device 1 stops working in BOINC Manager. That’s why I thought that both cards are working, but BOINC cannot utilize the second GPU on each card. But frankly speaking I don’t know how Windows should recognize Pro Duo cards. Maybe there should be 4 cards instead of 2 in device manager like it is now and your remark is excellent. I have no physical access to the computer now, but I will check it tomorrow and let know. |

Considered that perhaps one of the cards is dead, has come loose from its PCIe slot (thus reseat it), or that it's without sufficient power (check your PSU, check cables)? I have checked the physical connection of both cards and it looks ok. Cards are working as usual - leds are blinking and coolers are turning, they are also hot. I also asked AMD if I should see 4GPUs or 2 in a task manager or Radeon Software and their answer is "Please be informed that you have two Radeon Pro Duo graphic cards , Radeon software will show the GPUs as GPU1 and GPU2 and its normal". I still have no idea why BOINC Manager showed 4 devices and without any hardware changes or even computer or BOINCs Manager reset I suddendly lost 2/4 devices? Any ideas what to check next? Maybe Windows reinstallation? |

No don't go that far. I'll search in moment, but we have had reports from people they saw more than their GPU count in BOINC, cards that weren't there. So you may have had that happen, may be a glitch in how OpenCL is detected. |

See https://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=13350 for how another user dealt with his phantom GPUs. Chances are you are dealing with phantom GPUs as well. You can always PM that user to ask if he fixed his problems. |

Jord, thanks to your hint I have my 4 GPUs back. The key was to edit coproc_info.xml file. In my case I have doubled </ati_opencl> entry. It is very important to make the coproc_info read only, because BOINC Manager will modify it during a start. Thanks once again! |
