When starting BOINC on WIN 11, I get the error message "Invalid client RPC password. Try reinstalling BOINC" after installing BOINC Ubuntu on WSL2 and WSL2 is running. BOINC runs great on both WSL2 or WIN 11, but not concurrently. Windows BOINC will run fine if WSL2 and Windows Virtual Machine Platform are disabled, but when enabled I get the error message "Invalid client RPC password. Try reinstalling BOINC". The 'gui_rpc_auth.cfg file exists in windows not sure in linux. I've tried reinstalling Win boinc but doesn't help. I think the two installations may be interfering with each other somewhere but can't figure out if it's a port problem, resource problem or thier trying to access the same files, permissions? I assumed this would not be a problem since they run on different OS. They where running fine concurrently when first installed but it seems this started after upgrading boinc not sure though. any suggestions? Thanks |

The 'gui_rpc_auth.cfg file exists in windows not sure in linux.Yes, the file exists in Linux too. Currently I have in the notices tab, Warning:GUI RPC password is empty. BOINC can be used by any user on this computer. See https://boinc.berkely.edu/gui_rpc_password.php for more information. Unfortunately that goes to a 404 because most of the documentation has gone over to git-hub where development takes place. There may be clues in this thread. However I suspect it is the same ports issue but in reverse that I experienced while trying to run a native Linux client at the same time as a Windows one using WINE from my Linux box. I could run one or the other. At the moment, I have virtual box to run up to four instances of BOINC at a time from one machine. I haven't had a native windows machine since I defenestrated 25 years ago but if no one else chips in I will see if I can dig out the instructions I was given for doing it with WINE using different ports to enable one manager to control both clients. |

I believe I figured out what boincs doing but not sure how. Boinc client and manager are running and computing concurrently on win 11 and wsl2. However the win11 version keeps finding the Linux bonic password and trys to us it for win. I don't use a phone for win11 boinc. I've deleted the password file from the win ver but when wsl is enabled it recreates and boinc win11 mgr won't connectto the client.. I can't figure out where windows boinc is finding this password from as I thought the two OS where separate. I have reinstalled boinc on win in Boinc2 files. Didn't help. Just trying to get Win11 Manager to connect with the client. Thanks |

I think you have to set them up to communicate using different ports, then you can use one manager to control both clients. |
