I used to have BOINC 5.x, and it worked fine with Boinc View 1.42.
Once I did the upgrade to BOINC 6.xx, I can no longer see my remote machines?
Where am I suppose to put the "remote_hosts.cfg" and "gui_rpc_auth.cfg" files in BOINC 6.xx?
I've solved the above issue. I needed to place both files in BOINC program folder.

One more question though, how can I change the password? It seems that if I simply edit the password in "gui_rpc_auth.cfg", even the local BOINC manager could not connect to BOINC anymore.

Thanks

Boinc View does a few unexpected (but not wrong) things when authenticating. A *wrong* fix for a vulnerability in the core client made it stop working with the authentication sequence Boinc View attempts.

This has been "fixed" (worked around in a way as ugly as the original fix) but there isn't an official release with that fix yet.

In summary: Boinc View doesn't work with the 6.2 clients.

Which bits don't work?

Mine works fine for everything I need, with both the BOINC v6.2.14 I was using for weeks, and the v6.2.18 I upgraded to a couple of days ago when v.14 crashed horribly and trashed 76 tasks.

I don't use BOINC View so what do I know. According to this post on PS3GRID forums BOINC View doesn't get along with 6.3.10. Further down in the thread it is mentioned that a fix has been submitted but not released yet.

According to PoorBoy in this thread BV can see and report tasks on remote machines but it can't force a project update on a 6.3.10 client.

So, Richard and chungenhung, can BV force updates and other operations on 6.2.x clients? Or does it just list tasks and task details?

Update request to a v6.2.18 client (Windows XP), commanded by BoincView v1.4.2 (also on Windows XP)

SETI@home	12/09/2008 23:58:30	Sending scheduler request: Requested by user. Requesting 0 seconds of work, reporting 1 completed tasks
SETI@home	12/09/2008 23:58:35	Scheduler request succeeded: got 0 new tasks

Other commands I use regularly (NNT/allow fetch, suspend/resume, etc.) also work correctly.

Ah well, I might be wrong and the wrong-fix-that-breaks-BoincView didn't make it to 6.2, so 6.2 does work with BoincView.

Yes, 6.2.x line seems to be copletely fine. And 6.3.11 will be hopefully de-fixed (or re-fixed) too ;-)

Client 6.3.10 is partially de-fixed - at least BoincView's connection to the client is stable. I believe 6.3.4 (although first report was mentioning 6.3.3 from SVN) to 6.3.9 were causing BoincView to be continually connecting and disconnecting like a flip-flop because of the changeset 15282 (previously mentioned by Nicolas). Older versions were possibly BoincViewed fine.

Actually BView can only Monitor or see the Wu's on the 6.3.10 Client Box, it can't do anything else like Report or Update, just Monitor the Box.

In summary: Boinc View doesn't work with the 6.2 clients.

Mine too works fine with BOINC v6.6.36 on the parent "monitoring" (or main box) and on one client or child machine (both with doze).

It also works fine to monitor my Ubuntu box tho' this is running the supplied default BOINC v6.2.12.

And i access and command all of BOINC's functions on all 3 machines via BoincView just fine.

Tho' i am using BV v1.5 beta8, i've also had no problems with the same 3 boxen setup with the last BV version that was released, v1.4.2.

v1.4.2 still available tho' from here now - http://my.core.com/AD/55/zoso/BOINCView/boincview_1_4_2.zip

Why not change to Boinc.NET
Its nicer looking, does all the things you do with BoincView and the nice part, it is still being updated.

There are some interesting alternates evolving to BV amongst BOINC.net and BOINC Tasks. Not sure, but all, including BV take a fair bit of cycles., so hope BT will have soon a sample time setting.

PS, I like the BT filtering to show active tasks + those ready to upload and report, just excluding the tasks ready to run. Would tell me in the BM if something needs clearing v.v. the internet or check up with the project. After all, the BM is still a 1 client at the time, so it wont load up the screen with many lines causing performance concerns (looking at 6.10.13 atm).

edit: The BT refresh rate was set to slow and when minimized to tray seems not to take any cycles, which is good. Version 0.2.

The refresh rate of BoincTasks can be set manually as well. But the overhead is pretty low anyway. And I think the auto feature works pretty well.
And putting it in the tray will almost put everything to sleep.

Hi,

Does anyone have a valid download source for BoincView v1.4.2? The My.Core link quoted above appears to be down.

Thanks in advance.

Thanks, I've got it now.

Actually I had no problem pasting the link string into a browser (more accurately 3 different browsers). I just couldn't access the download until I turned off my security suite (Kaspersky).
