Hi all, I am trying to set up a BOINC server. I downloaded the BOINC Virtual Machine (running Debian Linux) and set it as the server. I downloaded a standard BOINC client on my Windows machine (the host for the Debian VM). As a start I have been trying to install the sample wrapper and worker applications. I compiled both apps under Windows and FTP'ed them to the Debian host. Then followed the instructions provided in http://boinc.berkeley.edu/trac/wiki/WrapperApp to the letter. The problem is, when I attach to the project, the client says "project communication failed" followed by "Scheduler request failed: couldn't resolve host name" At the beginning I thought this was a network problem, but using a single-job set up seems to enable the client and the server to communicate and the client downloads a program from the server (though it fails to create a process, but that is another story). My questions are: Is there any other modification that should be done to the server or the client? I noticed that the single-job script adds assimilators and validators to the project. Should there be an assimilator and a validator for the wrapper-worker case too? If so, can I find it anywhere or should I write it myself? Thanks for any help! |

Hi all, Maybe the problem with IP if you use free VM,because there are some restrictions on setting or getting IP. Good luck |

Thanks for the reply. Yes I am using a free version. I'll look into your suggestion. |
